4PM, 6PM + 8PM — WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6

EXPERIENCE A BEASTY ‘DIM SUM NIGHT’ WITH 3 OF OUR FAVOURITE CENTRAL OTAGO WINEMAKERS

Join us for this one-off evening with a delicious new menu created especially to celebrate three of our favourite Central Otago next generation wine producers: Ben of Alpine Wines, Sarah of Scout and Donald from Moko Hills.

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know that we love to showcase unique, often small NZ wine producers, the ones who are pushing the envelope and creating exciting new wines with freshness, minimal impact, often organic, biodynamic — and always, always — sunshine in a glass.

On the 6th of November we’ll be offering up a flowing a la carte-style ‘Dim Sum’ (small plates) menu from Stu, Giann and our team that’s unique to this event.  (Woooo ! New dishes !) You’ll be able to choose from a menu that has been especially created to enjoy alongside six beautiful wines from our favs.

Each winemaker will be working the floor with us. Meet the makers in a super relaxed, delicious Beasty setting. No set menu. No snooty Somm BS.

Six gorgeous, fresh wines are available on the night for the tasting. Choose glass by glass, a flight of three, or decide on the night to roll out the full experience and sample all six with us.

(THIS EVENT HAS NOW PASSED)

If you can’t see availability please contact us to be added to the cancellation list!

To book for more than 7 people for this event, please email us: eat@hellobeasty.nz

The Menu:

An array of a la carte small plates will flow from our kitchen — some will be fan favourites, others will be new and just for this one night. Each delicious dish is designed to be paired with one or two of the feature wines. Choose to eat as many or as few as you desire.

The Wine:

We’ve been following Scout, Alpine and Moko Hills for a while now. There’s an affinity between what they make, how they make it, and our philosophy at Beasty. Whatever they produce we try and get our hands on some to feature it on our list. These are incredibly delicious, unique and lively wines which always offer much to enjoy. There’s consistently great fruit, acidity and balance. On top of that Ben, Sarah and Donald are all really great humans! We love hearing about their journeys to each vintage and bottle, as they navigate the Central Otago seasons, the heat and snow, and make decisions for each wine in the pursuit of something truly special they can bottle and share.

There are six wines on offer, two from each producer — pouring 75ml half glasses, you’ll have a chance to try them all.

The People:

Scout

Sarah Adamson and her partner started Scout 7 years ago while working in the Adelaide Hills, as a creative outlet from their day jobs as winemakers. After making wine in Australia and Germany, the goal was always to get back to NZ and make wine in their favourite and most exciting wine regions! Scout is now based firmly in Central Otago, working with a range of unique and interesting vineyard sites and making incredibly delicious wine from them.

Alpine Wine Co.

Ben Leen is the Winemaker and Co-Owner of Alpine Wine Co. Ben first fell hard for grapes and wine in 2009 when he spent time in the Beaujolais region of France. The camaraderie of harvest was contagious. As was the juicy Gamay they drank with every meal. Ben has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University. Following his studies he has spent the majority of his winemaking career at Amisfield in Central Otago. With short stints in Oregon and Burgundy.

Alpine Wine Co was born in 2018 in Otago. Ben and his brother Josh started with one tonne of Pinot noir from Gibbston Valley. They have since steadily grown over that time but remain "passion project" scale to balance their busy day jobs and family life.

Moko Hills

Donald van der Westhuizen has a Masters in Ecosystem Ecology and worked throughout the South Pacific before switching his focus to spend time learning about wine in a serious way on Waiheke island, then in Central Otago, Oregon and Burgundy. He discovered Moko Hills in Bendigo by chance. The unique landscape and the flora and fauna that call it home, created an instant flooding of awe! A feeling of reverential fear and wonder that endures.

Donald works as a viticulturist throughout the region, and is the vineyard manager, winemaker and caretaker of Moko Hills. He aspires to make wines truly reflective of this special place. His vision is to encourage and enhance the unique natural landscape of Bendigo, conserving and restoring its beauty for subsequent generations.
